Chas. S. Lewis & Co., Inc. Information
Founded in 1891, Lewis Pumps manufactured its first vertical centrifugal sulphuric acid pump in 1914, beginning a specialization which has continued to the present time. Today, Lewis is the worlds acknowledged leader in pumping equipment for sulphur chemistry applications. The use of specialty alloys in our equipment dates to the mid 1920s. The original Lewmet alloy, Lewmet 55, was developed in the late 1960s and is still used in sulphuric acid pumping equipment to temperatures of approximately 140 degrees C. Today, the Lewmet alloy family includes specialty cast and wrought materials for a variety of corrosive environments. Combined with material selections to provide maximum corrosion resistance, the hydraulic and mechanical engineering concepts embodied in Lewis Pumps assure the operator of outstanding performance and reliability in high temperature sulphuric acid, molten sulphur, and other high specific gravity fluids.
Metal Mfg. & Mineral Ore Proc.
Lewis Pumps serves a variety of markets with heavy duty process pumps. Major markets include: metal mining, leaching and pollution control; non-metallic mining, process pumps and pollution control; petroleum and gas production, sulphuric acid alkylation and desulphurization services; chemical process industry, process pumps for sulphuric acid production, elemental sulphur, phosphoric acid production, elemental phosphorous, molten salts, and other corrosive, high specific gravity chemicals; and cargo pumps for the marine industry. Lewis pumps are currently used in over ninety countries around the world.
Centrifugal Pumps: Single and two stage, end suction, close coupled
Centrifugal Pumps: Single stage, end suction, frame mounted, up to 6 inches; discharge
Centrifugal Pumps: Single stage, end suction, frame mounted, over 6 inch discharge
Centrifugal Pumps: Vertical centrifugal sump pumps
Lewis main product line consists of vertical centrifugal pumps with a separate discharge column, which results in the stuffing box acting as a vapor seal only. Single stage pumps are available with flow rates from fractional to 12,500 USGPM (0 to 2,850 M3/H), heads to 400 Ft (122 MLC), and horsepower to 700 HP (520 kw). Multi-stage vertical centrifugal pumps are available with heads to 650 Ft (200 MLC). Lewis also offers close coupled and frame mounted horizontal pumps, and axial flow pumps with flow rates to 100,000 USGPM (22,700 M3/H).
